Emeritus Associate Professor of the Rural and Environmental History Group at the Wageningen University, 2019. His research interest includes, and he has published on social theory (processes and mechanisms of social change), trajectories of rural modernization, processes of spatial organization (nation building and state formation; globalization), changing material culture and consumption and historical demography.
