Researcher at the History Department at the University of Havana and in the Fundación Antonio Núñez Jiménez de la Naturaleza y el Hombre (Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation of Nature and Men). Funez does research in Cuban and Caribbean Environmental History, History of Science and the History of geographical ideas and projects of geoengineering in Cuba. This includes topics as the environmental impact of sugar cane, livestock economies and animal protein policies in Cuba.

Investigador del Departamento de Historia de la Universidad de La Habana y de la Fundación Antonio Núñez Jiménez de la Naturaleza y el Hombre. Funez realiza investigaciones en Historia Ambiental de Cuba y el Caribe. De igual forma se interesa por la Historia de la Ciencia y la Historia de las ideas geográficas y proyectos de geoingeniería en Cuba. Esto incluye temas como el impacto ambiental de la agricultura de la caña de azúcar, las economías ganaderas y las políticas para la producción y consumo de proteína animal en Cuba.
