Senior Researcher at the Center for Research in Environmental Geography (CIGA) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in ​​Environmental History, Power, and Territory. PhD in Geography from UNAM and a Master in history from the Universidad Michoacana. Professor of Geo-history at the National School of Higher Studies, Morelia Unit (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México), and in the Postgraduate Program in Geography (UNAM). He has been a visiting professor at the University of Twente (Netherlands), at the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technologies of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), and at the Center for Latin American Studies at Stanford University (United States). He belongs to the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONAHCYT), level 2. He is an Honorary State Researcher at the Institute of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Michoacán, México. He is a regular Academy of Sciences member and President of the Latin American and Caribbean Society of Environmental History (SOLCHA). Member of the scientific councils of the journals Landscape Research (Taylor & Francis Publishing, United Kingdom), Boletín de Estudios Geográficos (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Argentina), and PatryTer. Revista Latinoamericana e Caribenha de Geografia e Humanidades (University of Brasilia, Brazil), and Pueblos y Fronteras of CIMSUR (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México). He has written more than one hundred publications, including scientific articles, books, and book chapters, on his lines of research: historical geography, environmental history, and culturalist approaches to landscape.

Investigador titular en el Centro de Investigaciones en Geografía Ambiental (CIGA) de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), en el Área de Historia Ambiental, Poder y Territorio. Doctor en Geografía por la UNAM, maestro en Historia por la Universidad Michoacana y licenciado en Historia por la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNAM. Profesor de asignatura en la carrera de Geohistoria en la Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores Unidad Morelia (UNAM), y en el Posgrado en Geografía (UNAM). Ha sido profesor invitado en la Universidad de Twente (Países Bajos), en Instituto de Ciencias y Tecnologías Ambientales de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (España) y en el Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Stanford (Estados Unidos). Pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de México (CONAHCYT), nivel 2. Es Investigador Estatal Honorífico del Instituto de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación del Estado de Michoacán; miembro regular de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias y actual presidente de la Sociedad Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Historia Ambiental (la SOLCHA). Forma parte de los consejos científicos de las revistas Landscape Research (Editorial Taylor & Francis, Reino Unido), Boletín de Estudios Geográficos (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Argentina), PatryTer. Revista Latinoamericana e Caribenha de Geografia e Humanidades (Universidad de Brasilia, Brasil), Pueblos y Fronteras del CIMSUR (UNAM México). Ha escrito más de cien publicaciones entre artículos científicos, libros y capítulos de libros, referentes sus líneas de investigación: geografía histórica, historia ambiental y los enfoques culturalistas del paisaje.
